International Triathlon

In 1991 the Turkish Triathlon Federation established the International Alanya Triathlon. This is a championship for men and women, consisting of swimming for 1.5 kilometres, cycling for 40 kilometres and a marathon race of 10 kilometres. There is also a race in a separate category for 40 to 50 year old men.

In 1991 there were 120 sportsmen and women from 13 countries present at the race, in 2003 this number had risen to 208 participants from 21 countries, and in 2004 as many as 216 people from 26 different countries participated.


International Mountain-bike Competition

Another annual major sporting event is the International Alanya Mountain-bike Competition, which has been held since 1997. The event takes place in Alanya Castle and is a wonderful experience in this historical setting for both cyclists and spectators.

The course has a length of 7 kilometres and some 200 cyclists from 15 countries join in the competition. The competition category is E1 of the International Cyclist Union and it is organized jointly by Turkish Cycling Federation, Alanya Nature Sports Club and the Municipality of Alanya.

Gaps Volleyball Tournament

In 1993 the Municipality of Alanya supported the first Gaps Volleyball Tournament . The FIVB was interested in Alanya as a setting for parts of the world championships in 1996 and following that success the European Championship Finals were held here from 27 – 31 August 2004. A total of 24 men and 24 women from 24 different countries participated. The whole event received a lot of national and international press- and radio and TV coverage.


International Swimming Marathon

The International Alanya Swimming Marathon has been organized since 1992. It is held in October just before or after the International Alanya Triathlon. There are various categories for men and women of different age groups. The 5 km long marathon starts from Cleopatra Beach and finishes at the harbour. About 100 swimmers from some 15 countries take part in the races.
